In 2012, the State Oceanographic Administration (SOA) and Ministry of Education (MOE), and is under the management of
China Scholarship Council jointly launched the Marine Scholarship of China program for the purpose of providing financial
support to outstanding students to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree in oceanography or other related specialties, for enha-
ncing international marine cooperation and exchange, and promoting the harmonious ocean development in the region and
around the world.
Now this was the 5th Marine Study Tour organized by Xiamen University in Xiamen from November 24th to 29th, 2019. Ocean
University of China, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Xiamen University and Harbin Engineering University are the five
universities to undertake this program. The activities of this tour included many things like
Ø Visit Siming and Xiang’an campus of the Xiamen University
Ø Visit State Key Laboratory of Marine Science
Ø Visit DongShan Swire Marine Station, DongShan
Ø Visit Abalone Farm
Ø Visit Sea-horse Farm, DongShan
Ø Visit Third Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration
Ø Visit WuYuan Bay
Ø Visit Gulangyu Island etc.
The 25th November was the welcome ceremony. Mr. FENG Jun, Deputy Director, Department of International co-operation,
Ministry of Natural Resources of China was present as an honorable special guest and convener was Prof. FANG Qinhua,
Deputy Director of the Coastal and Ocean Management Institute and also respected teachers from different Universities were
present on that ceremony. I had the opportunity to deliver my speech as a representative of Xiamen University on that
program. On 27th November we had a cultural party at Golden Bay Hotel. I was hosting the total program and also
performed a dance.
I believe, its not like simply gathering but this is an opportunity to observe new environment, experiences with new enjoyment,
platform to share our knowledge, chance to build closer bonds with new friends. Study tour is a planned trip by a group of people
to a place away from our normal environment which can enhance the knowledge and help us to see the clear picture of the of the
theoretical things that we learned in the class room. We can gain a deeper understanding of real life. We can build independence
and confidence as we explore new places, local customs, global perspective. Study tour is always highly anticipated.
I had a great time for those days with my new friends. Now my family in China is growing more bigger with lots of sweet color
full memories. I am indebted to all of my teacher and officials specially my supervisor Prof. Minggang Cai. I am proud and happy
to be a part of marine scholarship council. Thank you.
